External Roller Shutters — Why Fit Them?

Types of External Roller Shutters — Built-On, Surface-Mounted, Plaster-In

Built-on shutters

Built-on shutters are fitted together with the window — the box is concealed above the frame and is usually invisible from inside once the reveals are finished. It is the solution for homes under construction and for joinery replacement, when you are planning new windows and shutters in a single order — the result is neat and airtight, because we design the whole arrangement as a whole.

Surface-mounted shutters

Surface-mounted shutters are fitted on a finished facade, above an existing window — it is a way to add shutters to windows you already have, without breaking through walls or replacing joinery. They work well when modernising homes and flats.

Plaster-in shutters

Plaster-in shutters are hidden in the insulation layer during a renovation and the insulating of the building. The box goes "under the plaster", and the facade stays clean, with no protruding parts. When carrying out thermal modernisation, it is worth thinking about them straight away, before the crew closes up the walls.

Control — Manual or Automation?

You operate external roller shutters manually or electrically — a decision we will make together at the quote stage, because each method has its place.

Manual control

A strap or a crank — cheap, reliable, with no electricity. It makes sense for single ground-floor windows and where you do not need remote control.

Automation — motor and remote

A motor in the shutter tube and control via a remote or a wall switch. Convenient for large glazing, terrace windows and where raising a heavy curtain by hand would be a chore. It works especially well for the elderly and at hard-to-reach windows.
